uh, yeah, about that...
NZB Editor (nzbedit) - Free Download
NZB Editor (nzbedit)NZB Editor (nzbedit) - Free Download
This utility can come in handy if you only need to download certain parts of a nzb file (a file used in most usenet readers to download a group of articles that are usually binary files, as opposed to text files). I'm using it now to redownload parts of a nzb I downloaded earlier that went missing. I could use my usenet reader to do this manually, but I'm hoping this is faster and easier. I'll update you later and see how this goes. Wish me luck!

Comical
(the above is a link to the program of the same name, go get it!)
If you love comics, this post is for you. You can read them on your computer! (And certain other digital devices like a sony psp or nintendo ds). If you have set up your usenet reader already, subscribe to these newsgroups:
alt.binaries.comics
alt.binaries.comics.dcp
alt.binaries.comics.dcp.toons
alt.binaries.pictures.comics
alt.binaries.pictures.comics.complete
alt.binaries.pictures.comics.dcp
alt.binaries.pictures.comics.repost
alt.binaries.pictures.comics.reposts
These are the most active groups. Your newsreader may let you search by groupname. If so, just use that (probably easier than typing those names). Search for comic. Be aware that usenet is not really censored in any meaningful way. You will find adult content in just about any newsgroup. So don't let children do this unsupervised! Just a friendly warning.
NzB Movies NZB Streaming and NZB Files
This website covers a lot of what I want to help people with, so I thought I'd show it to you. I'm still going to cover certain topics, but I'd thought I'd make this available now for the impatient among us (I admit that's often me as well!). Hope this helps you guys!
Judge throws book at Usenet.com in RIAA lawsuit - Ars Technica
I'm hoping that this doesn't affect the other news service providers. I'll try to keep tabs on this.
Sorry for the downtime...

news.astraweb.com - Signup with us
And probably my final post of the day, this is the best deal I've found on Usenet service (I'm using it myself!). It is only available for a limited time (they do not specify how long or when it expires). Hurry and read about it and sign up! By the way, this site does not have an affiliate program yet, so they aren't paying me to hype it up. I just really like them :)
Usenet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
And just to be clear, this link helps define what Usenet is, in case I didn't explain it well enough before. Hope this helps some of you!
NZBsRus.com - Usenet Newsgroup NZB File Search Service
Just in case you are a more advanced user, this is a very helpful service to you! It will allow you to download a file that will have all the necessary information for your newsreader to get a specific set of files from usenet. Basically, it allow you a quick start at using usenet if you are used to bittorrents or other p2p programs. I'll go into more detail later on this but suffice to say this is a site worth checking out. It allows limited free use, but they have an offer of lifetime vip access if you hurry! Good Luck!
MPA Set to Challenge Newzbin Usenet Indexer in Court | TorrentFreak
I wouldn't let this frighten you if you were just getting started into the usenet world. I don't see the MPA winning this (of course, I don't think the Pirate Bay case should have gone the way it did either). Nothing that Newzbin does is illegal as far as I can tell (if so, then a lot of companies are in trouble, especially Google!). One benefit of usenet, though, is that it's hard to track downloaders. Uploaders can also disguise themselves if they want to as well.

30 Day Challenge
So what is usenet?
Follow the link above for extreme detail (go ahead, I'll wait), but in layman's terms, it is basically a file-sharing service (that offers discussion of topics, much like a message board). If you haven't heard of it, that's ok. It's not quite as popular as Bittorrent or Kazaa or Limewire. But if you know what you are doing, it's even better. As a downloader, you are generally anonymous. As an uploader you can take simple steps to make yourself anonymous. So what's the catch? Well, you can't find everything. The server you use to connect to the usenet content is your choice (unless you use your isp's server, which I would not recommend for many reasons) and you should study this part heavily. The basic things to look for in a server are:
- Retention (how long they store their content)
- Completion (how well they store that content)
- Speed (how fast you can get that content)
- Anonymity (what they log)
Fortunately the first three are easy to find out, as most usenet providers advertise this on their homepage. The last may or may not be clear, so you may need to read their terms of service (tos) and usage agreements. Most are pretty much anonymous, but will say they log what you upload (just to keep spammers in line). Also most providers offer a trial period that may or may not be free. This is good, because sometimes even the seemingly best service may not be the best for you. What I mean here is that speed might be an issue, from provider to you. These usenet servers are located in many different places and may have to take a long route to reach you (so pay attention to where their server is based). The longer the route, the slower your download speed. Also, they may cap their speed depending on the level of service you paid for (or possibly your internet service provider may cap your speed as well). Anyway, I'll try to make a chart the covers the popular providers and rates them (and I'll try to keep it up to date). If you want to advise me on a new service (or correct me on something I said), comments are very welcome. Expect more to come! (Can you tell I'm excited to get this thing going?)
